The popularity of home laser tag guns has exploded in recent years. Not only can you play this great game in big laser tag arenas, you can also buy your very own laser tag sets and additional laser tag equipment for use at home or in the park.
Several toy companies have produced quite a few different home laser tag guns over the years, some better than others. With so many different laser tag systems available in the market now, we have come up with a list of the 10 best laser tag guns and sets for home use.
Let's kick off with our personal top 3 home laser tag sets.
What to Look for in a Home Laser Tag Set
When buying a laser tag system for home use, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Who are you buying it for? If they are young children, go for laser tag toys that are easy to handle. Young kids simply aren't looking for extra fancy features. However, If you're buying a laser tag set for older kids or young adults, you probably want to have laser tag guns with some exciting features included.
You also need to think about how many guns you need. Some laser tag sets include 2 guns, other sets include 4. Or you can buy guns individually in which case you need to make sure these guns can be programmed so that they can communicate with each other.
This also applies to laser tag sets. If you buy two identical sets, make sure all laser tag guns in these sets can work together. For example, the popular Call of Life laser tag system comes in sets of 2 and 4 guns, and all of them will work together nicely.
The other thing that may be important is the actual target that you need to shoot at. Some laser tag systems include target vests that players need to wear during play. Other laser tag guns are designed such that the guns themselves are the targets. We don't really have a preference, although we do find that wearing a vest can add to the combat experience.
Best Home Laser Tag Guns in 2018
Here is our list of the best laser tag guns and laser tag sets for use at home currently for sale. All of these laser tag guns and sets are affordable, durable and have good reviews.
1. Call of Life Laser Tag Set
The Call of Life laser tag set by Simply Addictive Games (now Dynasty Toys) has been one of the most popular laser tag sets for a very long time now, and for good reason. These laser tag guns are very intuitive to use but they are also quite sophisticated. In addition, the light and sound effects are spot on.
With different team settings, you can play individually against each other or you can combat in teams. You can also choose from 4 different blaster settings, depending on your chosen strategy: pistol, shotgun, submachine gun or missile launcher. There's also no need to wear a vest because the blasters are the actual targets. Great sound effects and excellent range (up to 120 feet in good conditions).
The Call of Life laser tag guns are available in a 2-pack and in a 4-player set. The 4-player set contains 4 blasters in colors red, green, blue and white. The 2-player set comes with one blue and one white blaster. What's great is that these laser tag guns are interchangeable, meaning you can buy as many sets as you like and all blasters will work together.
Overall these blasters are very easy to use and with so many useful features it's no surprise that they are one of the most popular home laser tag guns for sale right now. Suitable for children 8 years and over.
2. Laser X Laser Gaming System
One of the newest home laser tag sets on the market is Laser X Laser Gaming System, a reasonably priced set of two laser tag guns with target vests. Laser X comes with very cool light and sound effects which makes it perfect for a battle at home with the lights off.
The Laser X laser tag set was introduced in 2016 and has since consistently received decent reviews. If you're looking for a combination of laser tag guns and vests, the Laser X system is probably your best choice in the current market.
3. Nerf Lazer Tag Phoenix LTX Tagger 2-Pack
This 2-pack laser tag set is the perfect entry level laser tag system. At a very affordable price, the Phoenix LTX Tagger 2-Pack provides a very decent quality set of two laser tag guns that register each hit with vibrations, light and sound effects. With a very long range, players can tag each other from a distance equal to a football field.
Watch this video to see and hear how surprisingly sophisticated these laser tagger guns are:
4. Recoil Laser Tag by Skyrocket
Released in 2017, the Recoil laser tag set by Skyrocket is the newest home laser tag system on the market. With Recoil, Skyrocket wants to set the bar high for any future home laser tag sets to enter this competitive market. Mind you, this is not literally a home laser tag set, as you'll need to play Recoil in an outdoor space, such as in a park. As an Augmented Reality laser tag system, Recoil uses modern technology to create a digitally enhanced, multiplayer battlefield that allows 16 players in total to participate. This also means that you can buy multiple sets and all guns can work together in the same battle.
What does this set include? The Recoil Starter Set includes two white-orange blasters (Spitfire), a WiFi game hub, two phone mounts, two damage sensors and eight AR markers. Once you've purchased one or more sets, you'll then need to download the free Recoil AR powered mobile gaming app (Android and iPhone) in order to play.
Each player has to pair their smartphone to their blaster via Bluetooth. The compact blasters are very comfortable and easy to use and give you an actual kickback when firing. The WiFi game hub works as a GPS enabled local network router with an impressive range of 250 feet, about the size of a Football field. One of the best features of Recoil is the 3D Positional Audio that gives you live feedback in your ears as you battle it out.
Rather than buying multiple sets, you can also purchase additional weapons. They come in two versions: the RK-45 Spitfire and the SR-12 Rogue. The starter set already contains two Spitfires. Each individual weapon comes with phone mount and damage sensor, so you're ready to join a battle at anytime as one of the max 16 players.
The Recoil laser tag system looks incredibly promising but time will tell if Augmented Reality and home laser tag are a good combination.
5. WowWee Light Strike Assault Striker
The WowWee Light Strike Assault Striker is a very-well designed and extremely sophisticated laser tag gun. Interestingly, this tagger works with touch-sensitive buttons, just like on smartphones, so there are no physical buttons sticking out.
This video shows how awesome this laser tag gun is and what you can do with it:
6. Lazer Tag Team Ops Deluxe 2-Player System
An awesome 2 player laser tag system with two guns and two LCD screens! Get live game results and other stats as you are playing laser tag with your friends. The LCD display can also communicate with the devices of your teammates.
What's in the box? Two laser taggers, two HUD LCD units, 11 pre-programmed game modes and the option to design your own unlimited custom games. The Lazer Tag 2-Player Team Talk system is not included and needs to be purchased separately. Drawback? The price tag. Whilst this is a great laser tag set, it's hard to justify the price that it's currently going for.
7. Laser Tag Multiplayer Battle System
This laser tag set is one of the more expensive ones in the list but it's well worth it if you're willing to pay the extra dollars. If you want to be serious about home laser tag and keen to take it to the next level, the Multiplayer Battle System is a set you should consider.
What's included? This set contains two Phoenix LTX taggers (see item 2) with extra attachments that make these laser tag guns even more awesome: two pinpoint sights targeting units, two shot blast attachments and one video game attachment.
With the shot blast attachment you can aim at multiple targets, and the guns recoil with each shot fired. The pinpoint sight attachment gives you more accuracy when shooting, turning you into a professional sniper. If your friends are not around, you can practice your laser tag skills 1v1 with the video game attachment. Simply connect it to your TV and you're ready to play amazing solo battles on the big screen.
And if two of these taggers are not enough, you can add as many as you like and play with bigger teams. All taggers will be able to connect with each other.
Get ready for some very intense laser battles!
8. Light Strike 2 Player Laser Tag Set With Vests
This laser tag set includes 2 Light Strike laser tag vests and 2 Light Strike strikers. Play in low light or in total darkness, the guns and vests produce great sound and light effects to increase the excitement of the game.
The Light Strike 2 Player Combo is certainly not the cheapest in the list but definitely one of the more advanced and durable of the bunch. Additional strikers can be added without any issues, up to 4 different teams.
9. Discovery Kids Spaceship Laser Tag Toys
The Discovery Kids Spaceship Laser Tag set contains 2 laser tag guns (bright orange and green) that look like very exciting spaceships. This laser tag set is perfect for the little ones so that they can get familiar with laser tag without all the fancy features kids don't care about. While the manufacturer recommends these laser tag toys for ages 6 and up, we believe kids as young as 4, or even 3, can easily play with them.
But don't underestimate the quality of these two toys though. The grips are big enough for parents to hold so they can play with their kids. The spaceships produce awesome intergalactic sounds and vibrations while playing to add some more excitement. If you wish to buy multiple sets, all guns will work nicely together.
Turn the lights off and have some serious laser tag fun with the kids!
10. Nerf Lazer Tag Twin Pack
Use your smartphone to download the free Lazer Tag app and play some awesome laser tag battles with this next generation 2 player laser tag set. The 2 guns (1 orange and 1 white) come with iPhone/iPod cradles that will combine laser tag with video games and create an augmented reality environment. You're not only dealing with your opponents but also with alien invaders, airstrikes and much more. Up to 24 nerf laser tag blasters can be connected in one huge battle.
No iPhone? Fear not, these laser tag guns work just as well without smartphones as the augmented reality aspect is nothing more than an added bones. If you are buying this set because of the augmented reality feature, make sure you check whether it's compatible with you iPhone model before purchasing. These guns have been around for a while and we don't think they are compatible with the latest iPhone models. But as mentioned, they are still awesome laser tag guns, even without using smartphones.

Final Thoughts on Home Laser Tag
The home laser tag industry has evolved rapidly ever since the first laser tag arenas popped up in the USA in the 1980's. Hopefully the above list has given you a good idea of what types of laser tag sets are currently available on the market. As you can see, home laser tag is very accessible and the quality of the equipment is actually very decent.
Home laser tag toys are not just great fun, it's also a very social and exciting game to play. And what's best, you can also get a good workout in while playing a game of laser tag with your friends.
Cost of Home Laser Tag Equipment
Home laser tag is surprisingly affordable. For as little as 50 dollars you can get yourself a very decent set of two basic laser tag guns. If you have more to spend and looking for more features and perhaps target vests included and other accessories, the price could go up to several hundred dollars.
Keep in mind though that home laser tag systems are reasonably robust and durable. You just need to make sure you buy a laser tag set that fits your needs so you can enjoy it for many years to come.
Future of Home Laser Tag
What will the future bring to the home laser tag industry? We've noticed a shift towards augmented reality laser tag, or smartphone laser tag. This is a big shift as it complicates the equipment and will possibly drive up prices.
Several smartphone laser tag sets have been introduced in recent years, with mixed results. The Recoil laser tag system at number 4 looks very promising and will hopefully encourage other manufacturers to design similar home laser tag sets.
